danchecker and I were having a discussion about FFXIII's OTP's, specifically Fang/Vanille and how Hope and Lightning alter that dynamic. And then we went... some place strange.
It started off normally enough:
DC: AND I think that's what Fang needs and gets from Vanille. Someone who can suffer all the horrible stuff they go through together, and can still smile and be cute and FORGIVE and make people (Fang) laugh. Where Lightning would just go on a killing spree WITH Fang, and Hope would forgive and make a speech about how they all have to "be the better man" and then Fang would punch him and leave.
LK: NOW I AM IMAGINING FANG AND HOPE ON A BEACH IN CUBA
LK: "Fang, you said it yourself -- we're the better men!"
LK: But seriously: Hope as Xavier and Fang as Magneto.
LK: Vanille as Mystique, Snow as Havoc, Sazh as 'hey I didn't really die' Darwin.
DC: But who is Lightning?
DC: nvm, obviously Wolverine.
DC: Racist! Obvs Darwin is Serah. :)
LK: I was going to say Lightning as Taggart, but that wasn't working. Wolverine is clearly the better choice.
DC: Sazh: Moria? Beast?
LK: Bah! Serah as Moria! Strong character relegated to feminine support!
LK: Jil as Emma Frost.
DC: Okay, that's awesome.
LK: Rosch is Jeremy Ironside.
DC: The problem is that we are trying to fit a pretty strong awesome ensemble cast into "the Charles and Erik show. Plus Mystique."
LK: Clearly, this problem can be solved by promoting some fic to canon status. I'm fine with Havoc/Darwin/Snow/Sazh.
DC: No no! Darwin is Serah and then it makes perfect sense... Sazh is the one (Moria) with the valid and important backstory that got mostly forgotten halfway through the story.
LK: And at the end, when the CIA chief is all like 'women suck', he's also being RACIST.
DC: lol
LK: Cid? Rygdea?
DC: Russian commander and radio man.
LK: ffff - clearly. They keep their shared love from the Commisarat.
