I watched Starship Troopers this weekend (in celebration of Memorial Day, natch), and Seth Gilliam—Carver from The Wire—was in it. I was totally like "Man, killing bugs with nuclear-tipped RPGs is how we do things in the Western District!"
On the one hand, a cross-universe Starship Troopers/The Wire fanfic would be hilariously crazy and bad.
From far down the dark tunnel came a tune, whistled and unmistakable: "The Farmer and the Dell." And for the first time, the Brain Bug felt fear.
Alternatively:
The smell only confirmed what the two had already suspected: no one in the comm station was alive. "Aaahhh, fuck," said Trooper Bunk, his ever-present cigar bobbing slightly. From behind him, McNulty agreed. "Motherfucker." The two got to work.
On the other hand, I really hope that no fan fiction for The Wire exists. That's like... fan fiction of the Bible, man. Some things are Holy and Not Fucked With.
Of course, I checked... and yes, both communities exist. That said, the Bible fan fiction community appears to be much, much more vibrant—probably, I suspect, because (dare I say it) the Old Testament provides a world imbued with magical realism. Imagine the summaries: "The favored prince of the kingdom is cast out into the desert, only to return the instrument of a wrathful god." Then there's the all-too-human reigns of Saul and David, the prophets ("Ahab/Jezebel/Elijah M/M/F, Oneshot"), Israel's various occupations, etc, etc. You even have a few strong female characters to deal with—I'd ship Esther and Ruth, why not, though the Bathsheba/Esther pairing has the "we're both princesses" thing going for it. And don't even get me started with the New Testament.
(Jesus/Judas is too obvious; in my opinion, the "will-he-won't-he" nature of Peter's faith makes a Peter/Jesus pairing far better.)
But The Wire... man, The Wire is "real life." Physics behaves in a precise, mathematically predictable way. You have to drive cars places, and people die in pretty dumb ways.
However, I'm certain there exists out there an Omar/Mouzone fanfic.
